SATA newb. Are they supposed to make different sounds?

Hi, I just got a new computer. Very quiet, except that once in awhile when the hard drive is in use, there will be a single rather loud high-pitched sound, like chipping glass. Any idea what I'm talking about? Is it normal?

My previous hard drives were 40 and 60 gig old school Seagate drives. My SATAs are like 300 gig.

Thanks.

Nope, shouldn't sound any different, should be quieter if anything just because of newer technology. The only real difference is the drive interface, everything else is mechanically the same.

I'd run the manufacturer's drive diagnostic tool on that drive to make sure everything is ok.
