  1. I bought a p4 motherboard a while back that was said to be in working condition, but when i got it, it wasen't. BUT, i think i just need the correct ram, for it uses pc800 and i have been using pc800/8 (is there a difference?). I just reset the switch panal according to a hp vectra vl800 handbook i found online, before it gave me a weird beep code, and when i turn all the switches to on, it gives me a 1-3-3-1 beep code, and it dosen't post and just flashes the power light. But the handbook says to turn all the switches to off, except the 6th one whcih is left on. When i do that, it dosen't beep or post, just flashes the power light.

Hmm.. Which handbook are you reading? The one I got from HP says that switches 1-5 are OFF and "Reserved 1-5. Do Not Change Default Settings."

All the beep codes are explained in the HP technical referene manual too.

Quite amazingly, you go to www.hp.com, Support and Troubleshooting, search for Vectra vl800, go to manuals and open the technical reference manual..
