Active Searches redirected & system crashes

In the past few months, whenever a search is done using any browser, clicking on the search results redirects me to another webpage. The computer is also shutting down on its own. I have followed the 5-step viruses/spyware/malware and the problem persists.

I have Avast version 7.0.1426
I have Malwarebytes Anti-Malware 1.60.1.1000

The Malwarebytes log, GMER log (no results), and DDS logs are attached.

Any help on this matter would be appreciated.

Regards,

Ken

Welcome to TechSpot!

Although you found the preliminary virus and malware removal thread, it appears that you did not read the directions: Please revisit>

Preliminary Virus and Malware Removal.
  • These steps are NOT meant to be a ONE-STOP-FIX-ALL.
  • They only serve to help you produce some logs, so we can see if your system needs further attention and cleaning.
  • Please make sure you complete ALL the steps in this thread, in the order that they are listed BEFORE you post the requested log files.
  • Make sure, you PASTE all logs. If some log exceeds 50,000 characters post limit, split it between couple of replies. Attached logs won't be reviewed.
  • If you have any problems following any of the instructions, please ask for assistance.

You don't need to leave the 'protection log'. Paste Malwarebytes, 2 logs from DDS and the GMER log in your next reply.
=====================================
My Guidelines: please read and follow:
  • Be patient. Malware cleaning takes time. I am also working with other members while I am helping you.
  • Read my instructions carefully. If you don't understand or have a problem, ask me. Follow the order of the tasks I give you. Order is crucial in cleaning process.
  • If you have questions, or if a program doesn't work, stop and tell me about it. Don't try to get around it yourself.
  • File sharing programs should be uninstalled or disabled during the cleaning process..
  • Observe these:
[o] Don't follow directions given to someone else
[o] Don't use any other cleaning programs or scans while I'm helping you.
[o] Don't use a Registry cleaner or make any changes in the Registry.
[o] Don't download and install new programs- except those I give you.
Threads are closed after 5 days if there is no reply.

Ken, I have edited the subject of your thread to better reflect the problem. You don't have to do anything about that. The subscription you have will still send email feedback when there is a reply.
-----------------------------------
You left the lower part of Malwarebytes which I don't need. It does not include scan results. Please find the log in your system and paste in the logs starting with:

www.malwarebytes.org

Database version: v2012.03.12.07
Including this> Scan type: Quick scan
And everything following up to this> (end)

This same 'protection' log was left on 2 other forums with the same date as yours. Be sure Mbam has been updated.

The system is having frequent bug checks and memory dumps. I'll see what we can do here, but if necessary, I may have the thread moved to the Windows BSOD forum so that they can help find the drivers causing the crashes.

Please go back and find the Combofix log. Re-post the entire log. It does not stop with this section: (( Find3M Report ))))))

Are you having a problem pasting these logs into the post?
==================================
It appears that you ran C:\TDSSKiller_Quarantine\11.03.2012_22.54.58\tdlfs0000\tsk0000.dta Win64/Olmarik.AD trojan

Going by the logs time, it was after we began here. Please don't run any scanning or cleaning programs while I am helping you. But since you did run it, please find the log and include it in your next post:

The default quarantine folder is in the system disk root folder, C:\TDSSKiller_Quarantine\11.03.2012_22.54.58

Please update Java: Java Updates . Uninstall any earlier versions in Add/Remove Programs as they are vulnerabilities for the system.

Be sure to check all download screens for any pre-check toolbars or BHO> if found, remove the check before the download..
=====================================
The malware is in the Java cache- that is because the Java you had was 11 updates out of date. That is a vulnerability to the system and the Java cache needs to be cleared:
This should help with clearing the Java cache:
1. Click Start, and then click Control Panel.
w7_strt_cp_click.gif

2. Click Programs, and then click the Java icon.

If you are using Windows 7 and your View by is set to either Large icons or Small icons, then click the Java icon.

3. Click the General tab> Temporary Internet Files section> click Settings.
4. Click Delete Files.
5. In the Delete Temporary Files window, select all the check boxes, and then click OK.
6. Click OK to close the Temporary Files Settings window.
7. Click OK to close the Java Control Panel window.

We'll continue after you post the full Combofix log.

Thanks for the help. The computer seems to be working a bit better as the redirects to websites after a search seems no longer to be happening.

I removed the older version of Java and deleted all the temp internet files.

Here's what I get with the ComboFix log. When I run Combofix, it restarts my computer. After this, it says a log is being generated and then I get something that says "Syntax error". I can't open any internet browsers. I leave it for 30minutes and then just close out the window. Should I be waiting longer? It doesn't seem like anything is happening
