Selective sound - I'm pretty computer illiterate - help please?

I downloaded an update for Windows XP and ever since then if I try to use itunes or media player or anything it says that I have a problem with my audio configuration. I've gone to my control panel and it says that I have no audio device. I do get the sounds when I turn on the computer but nothing else. What do I need to do to fix this? Thank yor for any help you can give me!!!

you need to install drivers for the type of audio card you have (assuming you have one!) If it is internal on your motherboard, you need the drivers for then motherboard. If it is a card, you need those instead.
