OK, OK, where to begin...

I have a 'selective' sound problem on my computer.

I am not computer-savy; my dad 'is,' but he's from Vietnam and computer-lingo isn't exactly his forte. Recently, he's upgraded my computer. From what I can gather, my computer now has:
Intel(R)
Pentium(R) D CPU 2.80GHz
2.79 GHz, 1.50 GB of RAM

The pertinent addition (and maybe problem child is:
Realtek AC97 Audio device

State of sound on my computer:
Videos from Youtube work, BUT don't play sound.
Certain PC games work, BUT don't play sound.
Web games work, BUT don't play sound.
Anything that uses Adobe Flash Player 9 doesn't play sound.
Windows XP OS sounds, ex: startup sound, prompts, etc.

Exceptions:
iTunes, sound still works.
Starcraft, (why it's sound still works, is beyond me)
streaming Window's Media Player content from the web, such as CNN or filecabi.

So...

PLEASE! PLEASE! PLEASE! HELP!!!

I don't want to use Window's Troubleshooting again! Help me solve this @#$%-ing mystery!!!

have you try reinstalling the Realtek device? Make sure you know the exact version of the software and you could download it straight from the website.
