Serial ATA HDD problems

I just bought a new Seriel ATA harddrive by Western Digital. My motherboard supports it, it's a ECS 848p-a. I connect it but it acts as if nothing is hooked up. I am sure that both ata and power connectors are in place. If anyone could help that would be awesome. I also downloaded the RAID drivers from the official site just to see if it would do anything, but it said that my chipset is incompatable although I chose the correct model for the motherboard. I really need to figure out how to get thise HDD to work. I am going to use it for storage purposes and I looked at the jumper settings but they don't seem to help either. Thanks in advance.
