I'm htinking about buying a new Motherboard but the main dilemma is that i do not know wether i should buy one that supports SATA or not. I've understood that a motherboard with SATA does only support SATA harddrives and NOT standar HD drives. Is this correct? How muc faster/better are the SATA drives? Should i consider start using SATA instead of the "old" system?

Thanks in advance!

No - that's not true chris86 - many SATA capable motherboards also have connections for IDE devices. Take a look at the wonderful Asus P4P800 Deluxe.

Yes it does. I run SATA RAID on the SATA controller and my CD/DVD drives off the IDE controller. You can also run IDE HDs at the same time, if you so desire.
