If you’ve been itching to place your order for the successor to last year’s Blackphone, now’s your chance. Silent Circle is now accepting pre-orders for the aptly-named Blackphone 2.

First unveiled at Mobile World Congress in March, the Blackphone 2 improves upon the original in nearly every way. It consists of a 5.5-inch, 1080p display covered in Gorilla Glass that’s powered by a Qualcomm octa-core SoC clocked at 1.7GHz with 3GB of RAM on tap.

There’s 32GB of local storage, a microSD card slot to expanded upon it / facilitate local file transfers, a 13-megapixel rear-facing camera and a quick-charge battery. It runs Silent Circle’s own Silent OS (previously known as PrivatOS) which is based on Android.

While Silent Circle may be accepting pre-orders, the company seems to be making the process more difficult and confusing than it needs to be. Instead of the usual process, they're asking prospective buyers to contact their sales department to get on the list.

What’s more, Silent Circle still hasn’t revealed how much the handset will cost nor do we know exactly when it will launch outside of the general September timeframe. The original Blackphone retailed for $629; when you consider the hardware upgrades afforded by the new handset, the total could easily reach $800 or more (pure speculation on my part).

Either way, I suspect some will have a hard time committing to a purchase without knowing how much they’ll end up paying.
