You may have heard the news that the 45th President of the United States has been chosen, and, much to the surprise of Silicon Valley, it wasn’t Hillary Clinton. Other than well-known Trump supporter Peter Thiel, the response from the biggest names in tech has ranged from stunned acceptance to abject horror.

Thiel, who donated $1.25 million to Trump’s campaign last month, was quick to congratulate the new President, but warned that a difficult time was ahead of him. "[Trump] has an awesomely difficult task, since it is long past time for us to face up to our country’s problems. We’re going to need all hands on deck," said the PayPal co-founder.

Thiel’s is a lone voice in an industry that donated almost $8 million to Hillary Clinton’s campaign. Trump received around $1.6 million from those in the technology sector, with Thiel’s donation making up the vast majority of that sum.

The rest of tech world hasn’t welcomed the news of a Trump presidency. Iranian-American entrepreneur Shervin Pishevar has said he will help the state of California – the sixth largest economy in the world - secede from the US and become its own nation. His plan was backed by fellow Angel investor Dave Morin.

Elsewhere, investor Adam Singer said the “Party is prob over for Silicon Valley for now Trump presidency means recession time.” While entrepreneur Bijan Sabet tweeted that he was worried about what to tell his children.

Others, however, have admitted that they are willing to accept Trump. Even Mark Cuban, an outspoken supporter of Hillary Clinton, said everyone must give the President-Elect a chance.

Stock markets across the world fell on news of a Trump victory. The Dow Jones index is expected to lose 2 percent – about 400 points – when it reopens, though it had been predicted to drop by 4 percent. The BBC notes, however, that neither markets nor currencies have swung as wildly as they did after the UK vote to leave Europe back in June.

It seems that Bitcoin owners may be pleased with Trump’s win. The cryptocurrency closed up 3.5 percent as the final election results came in.

Trump has a majority in both the House & Senate that will remain for the next two years .... that being said, he won't have any excuses for not accomplishing all of his promises ... so now the work begins and we'll see how good a leader he is by his choices and his actions. We can all hope for the best, but we would also be wise to prepare for the worst. Only time will tell.

My prediction from 2007:

1. Presbo wins POTUS
2. Institutes terrible policies
3. Presbo wins second term
4. Effects of (2) begin to manifest
5. Republicans swept into power in 2016
6. Consequences of (4) materialize with R's holding the ball around approx. 2020.
7. Pendulum swings back to D's because R's "destroyed America/world."

So far: that's 5 out of 7.

I'm pretty sure Trump will not be able to do what he needs to do. Unless people stop rejecting the other side just because they are the other side and the negativity that stops people from working together for a good future (they just work against the incumbent party) plus the magnitude of what the change needs to be.
People seem very afraid when they are told up front that their will be change, seems they prefer that the government just do it behind their backs even when the magnitude of the change is the same.
In Canada we tossed out the ruling elite, but his replacement hasn't made the fundamental changes required although he talks a good game. Do have real hope for the next years which I wouldn't have had with the status quo

This is Phase 1 in America. How the Congress gets along with Trump over the next year is going to have a huge impact on the 2018 midterms. How he handles the wall is going to determine his odds in 2020.

Someone put it well on social media. Last night was the season finale. Starting in Jan we will have season two.

In regards to some comments from Silicon Valley "entrepreneurs" around a coming "recession", I think they might want to take a good look at the country they live in, for large parts the recession was never over and they're still living it today, they voted for a different change in economics, if silicon valley goes into recession because of it, the average person living in poverty today doesn't give a damn. They'll just see it as the rich guys getting knocked back to ground.

Orange is the new black...

That said. I agree, the Democrats already lost, it's not time to be soar and work towards building something instead of destroying it.

Lol, I love hearing about clinton supporters crying.. I mean really, how stupid can you be to vote for her. She wanted open borders, strongly supported abortion aka killing unborn babies, very secretive that bleached data to hid her tracks, and I can go on and on..

Donald Trump is a Troll.

A sociopath, megalomaniac troll.

How do you deal with a Troll? You have to ban them or block them. They will NEVER stop trolling and will continue to do what they do because they thrive on attention.

The 16 other Republican candidates were eliminated one-by-one as Trump pointed the finger of blame at the system. Then he turned the voters against the GOP. Then - using debbie Wasserman Shultz/Hillary's attack on Bernie - he played on the anger of voters in the DNC - turning them against the democrats.

Trump did better with Black voters and latinos than Romney. Why? Because they recognized their communities in stagnation and violence - and then felt unsafe due to radical Islamic terrorist attacks.

The left wanted to eliminate Trump earlier - but couldn't. The GOP wanted to eliminate him - but couldn't. He didn't need to spend more money, he just needed to talk louder than everyone else.

I knew he was gonna win over a year ago because I foresaw the collapse of Hillary.

America threw her under the bus for Obama - then turned around and tried to do it again for Sanders. Hillary was hated back in the 90's by the majority of White voters.

She ran an unenthusiastic, dull campaign that galvanized no one.

People showed up en masse to Trump rallies because they were exciting and hearing him speak was upflifting.

America has had its "Brexit".

Globalism has been thoroughly rejected.

Deal with it.

The media itself has polarized this country and they created this situation.

Trump beat not only the DNC, but the GOP and the media itself.

This is a Ronald Reagan moment only now - it's so much YUUGER than Reagan, it is become a "Trump moment"

I am a Trump Republican.

Shervin Pishevar has said he will help the state of California – the sixth largest economy in the world - secede from the US and become its own nation.
As if we needed any more evidence that silicon valley thought they were better than the rest of the world.[/QUOTE

There has been a proposed initiative to split California into 6 states. That might be a great idea. But, an even better idea might be for the far far left in California (probably 70% of it) to secede from the U.S. and the remainder to stay as the state of California. Much of America might actually support getting rid of the tech billionaires and Hollywood celebs. But, if this Pishevar guy wants to pay for it I am all in favor.

LOL secession will NOT be tolerated.
