Hi everyone, I foolishley tried to upgrade memory by inserting a simm package into a dimm slot. the card blew one of its gold fingers and has made a bit of a mess of the the slot.since then the pc has not worked, fans are on, green lights on both cdrom, & fdd, no image on screen or noises. it will not turn off either other than at the wall. have i killed the mobo or is their a solution I promise not to do it again

Hello and welcome to Techspot.

I`m not sure what you mean by simm, do your mean ram stick? However, it does sound like you`ve fried the mobo I`m afraid.

Regards Howard

A SIMM is a lot shorter than a DIMM.. How on earth did you manage to get it wrong? (Or are you confusing different kinds of DIMM modules?)

Fireworks does mean dead hardware and if you fried your memory controller or some power circuitry, then there's nothing else to do than replace the mobo.
