Sims 2 compatibility

My daughter recieved Sims 2 for her birthday. I am concerned that it is not compatible with our Inspiron 1000. I hesitate to even open the package if it won't work. What if I can't return it? She will be disappointed but will just have to pick another game instead. Any suggestions for a different game?

The game should run OK. It won't be as smooth as on some gaming beast of a desktop, but otherwise that machine is just fine.

You are going to need DirectX 9.0c as well as DirectX 9.0 compatible drivers for your integrated videocard if you wish to have any hope for this game to work.

I'd start by testing dxdiag to see if all DirectX accelerated tests work properly with your current drivers. If not, you already have a problem. Hit the Start Menu, choose "Run.." and type: dxdiag

It may ask you if you wish to obtain WHQL certifications over the internet. If the laptop is currently connected, feel free to click Yes... then once dxdiag launches, Click on the "Display" tab at the top. Look for any reports in the "Notes" window at the bottom that list warnings or problems.

Finally, make sure all three DirectX Features areas are "Enabled"... and hit the "Test Direct3D" button. It will run through three tests: DirectX 7, 8 and finally 9. If it can do all three, this is the first step.

After this, Sims 2 still may have issues. If so, you may need an updated driver from Dell for the integrated video. If you can run all the DX tests above though, this is the first step.

Good luck!

Sims 2 Problem

When I open up the EAsy Info program it says that my Display Memory is set at 0. The minimum requirements are 32. I don't know how to change the setting. Please help! Everything else seems to be in order so I believe this is the only reason why I can't play the Sims 2.

ok i have a problem where it says my drivers are not directx9.0c compatible and i just downloaded the newest driver from the company and it still says that its not compatible

You can run the game, but it will be very very slow and not look too great either,,

Try getting a dedicated video card,,

onboard will also give problems,,, like possibly DX9 installing,, or whatever,,
