Sims2 installation problem

Whenever I attempt to install The Sims 2 a message pops up during installation that says it cannot extract some file from the media. It isn't always at the same percent during installation, and it isn't always the same file. I have Direct X 9.0 and I'm pretty sure my drivers are updated because I needed to update them due to problems with RCT3. I also do not have any Visual Drivers because this computer is new and I have never installed any of those. Help would be much appreciated.
