Slacking PC

Hi there everyone. I hope this is the correct spot for this question. I've looked and this seems to be the most appropriate place. If not please accept my apologies.
Ok the problem I'm having is that about 3 years ago I've built this machine. What I thought to be a pretty nice machine that I believe should be pretty fast for gamming and such. The problem is that it's always seemed a bit slow. I've done several things over the time to try to speed it up including newer video card, over clocking the cpu/memory, etc. yet I continue to get a very low score when I run 3dmark06. It says it's comparing to similar machines and it shows me to be very low scored. Below I'll detail what 3dmark scores me as.. then I'll detail what system build I have, along with a log from HijackThis (since I see this requested most times questions like this are asked). I guess what I'm wondering is does anyone have any idea why my score would be so low and what I need to do to get it to go up (in turn increasing my FPS in games)? Thanks.

3DMark Score 8791 3DMarks

SM 2.0 Score 3857

SM 3.0 Score 4868

CPU Score 1675

System Build
OS Microsoft Windows Vista

CPU AMD Athlon 64 X2 4200+ (manchester)
Corsair Twinx2048-3200c2pt Memory
Abit AN8 Ultra Motherboard
Nvidia GeForce 9800 GTX Video Card
Western Digital Raptor WD740ADFD 74GB 10000 RPM 16MB Cache SATA 1.5Gb/s 3.5" X2 in stripe raid array for OS and games.
System has been overclocked to 2453.2mhz core speed, multiplier = 10.0, buss speed = 245.3, HT LInk = 981.3, Dram freq = 245.3, CL 3.0, tRCD = 3, tRP = 3, tRAS = 8, tRC = 11, CR = 1T, DRAM idle timer = 16. (3dmarks are almost exactly the same at stock and overclocked, I do see in game FPS go up approx 20fps overclocked though).

well to address this to you 3dmark requires a very fast CPU to get really nice scores and the 4200 is not one of these cpus. even OCing this thing will probably not make a very noticeable difference 3dmark loves fast cpus with as many cores as it can get. hence the low score on an older cpu. Now a 9800 gtx is not that bad of a video card you just need to pair it with a faster cpu.

Ok but it says that it's compairing my score to compairable computers.. would that not include Processors? and if so how come my score is at the very bottom of the scale when compaired to similar computers?

lol there probably is only 2 computers on there with the same cpu that you have its compared to all computers not just similar ones.
