Sling Media recently introduced a couple of new products to its Slingbox line of placeshifting devices including a brand new entry-level device.

The Slingbox M1 replaces the previous budget offering, the Slingbox 350, which debuted in October of 2012. In addition to being smaller and faster than the original, the M1 also adds dual-band Wi-Fi and comes in at a cheaper price point of $149.99. It's available for pre-order as of writing through Amazon, Best Buy and Tiger Direct with launch scheduled for July 20.

Elsewhere, the company is rebranding its flagship Slingbox 500 as the SlingTV. It'll feature the same hardware as the existing Slingbox 500 but with an all-new user interface. In addition to carrying all of the placeshifting features as before, the new UI will make it easier to browse, discover and navigate content on your television. It essentially delivers a Smart TV experience without having to buy a new set.

SlingTV is expected to launch in late August. At that time, current Slingbox 500 owners will receive the software update automatically.

Sling Media is also bringing back its desktop clients for Windows and Mac - a move that is sure to please the Slingbox faithful. Apps for the desktop were around several years ago but Sling Media discontinued them in favor of a web-based player.

Last but not least, Sling Media has updated their mobile apps for Android and iOS. Those should be available from their respective app stores as of writing.
