Hi all,
I'm new to this site, and hoping to get an answer to my problem.
Couple of weeks ago I did a repair/reinstall of XP home edition. Before that it used to boot to D/T in about 45 seconds, as does my second machine. Now it takes over 2 minutes. Bootvis shows that it is active for 20 seconds, then nothing until about 100 seconds, then it finishes the job in <30 seconds. What is making it wait for so long?
I have done the HJT thing and have adequate A/V and A/S software + firewall, Adaware and am positive it is clean. I have also used XPTweak to no avail.
Anything short of reformatting will be welcome.

IF you have any file sharing defined, then this will help (fix from Microsoft)

  1. turn off file sharing and stop sharing the defined folders
  2. reboot the system
  3. now enable file sharing and redefine one shared folder
  4. reboot again
Now if you reboot the third time, it should avoid attempts to find other file shares
and get to the Desktop in a reasonable time.

Any other print/file shares can then be added at will :)
