Slow performance

In general, my computer's not all that great. I can't run any new games or anything, so I stick with the classics, but even the fps on those aren't that great. The speed of the computer effects internet use so much that it's nearly impossible to watch any video without it being all choppy. Is there any way I could optimize my computer so that it runs faster in general?

Edit: Forgot to put in, but I can't really buy new components for it. And just recently I had been infected by a couple viruses, got rid of them (and everything else bad on here), but it's acting just the same as it did before the viruses.

If ur willing to spend some cash, get more RAM for ur PC. That would increase the speed. But otherwise, use a good, light antivirus program like AVG, Avast! or NOD32. In addition, use Ad-Aware, Spybot Search & Destroy, Ewido or all of them to scan and rid ur PC of spyware/adware.
