Slow reformatting

ive had it with my laptop. can someone please help me.
i got it back from the repair place today where they completely formatted and cleaned my computer.
so i take it home and have to reinstall windows, so i have to format it myself again, sounds easy enough? NO
i have made it down to 1 partition and started formatting, this was about 2 hours ago now and it is still on 0% is there anyone that can give me some advice, should i just wait it out?? HELP HELP HELP

but it was working fine before i got it reformatted?
any other suggestions? about partitioning etc?
im gonna go and try and boot it off the windows 98 cd

i dont have a floppy drive so the win 98 idea was a flop,
i would really like to do this myself if i could, am i getting something wrong with the partitioning, should i be seperating it? i dont know, someone give me answers that make sense, i dont know much about computers, letalone their setup.
