SM Bus Controller - Unknown Device

By finchfinch

  1. Hi

Just did a fresh install of windows XP Pro. upon reboot. SM Bus Controller in device manager is not recognized. I have found out that this is due to the chip set drivers not being installed.

I have found out my mother board and chipset details using Everest (Cool Application).

    Motherboard Name: Asus A7N8X-LA
North Bridge: nVIDIA nForce2 IGP (Crush18)

how the hell do I go about getting the correct drivers? I've looked on nvidia webset but theres no references to nForce2 IGP

    Please help.

The question is what graphics chip nVidia is using. Could you please copy everything Everest reported about North Bridge: nVIDIA nForce2 IGP (Crush18)

Sorry, i should have been more clear. In Everest, click Report to get the Report Wizard. Then select a hardware report and save it as text. Now find the section on North Bridge: nVIDIA nForce2 IGP (Crush18) and copy all the text it reports describing it.

You want to find a driver for the Asus V8170 DDR (it's listed in the report as your graphics card)

Thanks for the advice. I downloaded and installed the relevant driver as you suggested, however the SM bus controller in device manager is still showing up as an unknown device. any other ideas?

    thanks again

    Ooops.

Doing too many things at once here and sent you after the wrong drivers.

Try this link to nVidia's driver download for nForce2 (it's old so is considered and listed under "Legacy" products)
