Sony Ships Linux Kit for PlayStation 2

Sony started shipping its Linux Kit for the PS2 game console this week in what is being described as "an experiment to take the machine beyond fun and games", according to analysts...

But Sony downplayed its expectations for the venture -- the company reportedly would be happy to break even with the US$200 kit, which includes Linux software for PS2, a hard drive, an Ethernet network adapter and a USB (universal serial bus) keyboard and mouse -- and analysts told NewsFactor that consoles like Sony's are unlikely to move beyond their use in gaming.
