sony cyber-shot qx10 qx100 iso sony lens camera firmware update

Sony’s quirky Cyber-shot QX10 and QX100 camera accessories are now a bit more functional thanks to a recent firmware update. Version 2.0 includes higher ISO support and better video recording capabilities for both models while higher-end QX100 owners will also enjoy a new shutter speed priority mode.

With the new firmware, the QX10 gets a boost in the ISO department from a maximum of 1600 up to 3200 while the bigger brother’s ISO range now tops out at 12800, up from 3200. The added flexibility could make a big difference while shooting in low-light environments but how useful it really is will ultimately be determined by how much additional noise the higher values introduce.

Additionally, both lens cameras now support recording videos at 1,920 x 1,080 resolution at 30FPS, up from 1,440 x 1,080 with the original firmware.

Last but certainly not least, the QX100 adds a new shutter speed priority mode (“S” mode). This semi-manual mode will give users a bit more control over the camera as it allows for manual adjustment of the shutter speed while leaving other metrics like aperture up to the camera. This mode is most commonly used when a user wants to photograph a moving object – either to freeze the object in time with a fast shutter speed or illustrate motion by using a slower shutter speed.

To install the new firmware, simply download the appropriate file from Sony’s website (QX10 / QX100). Then just launch the updater and follow the on-screen prompts, making sure not to connect the lens to your computer until you are told to do so.
