Sound shutsoff after one minute into zoo tycoon2 game

I am sorry to say that I am not computer savy, I know I have an athlon processor 3 ghz and 512mb. And am running windows xp home. That is the extent of my knowledge of my computer. I have recently installed zoo tycoon 2 and about one minute into the game the sound completely shuts down and the computers entire sound system is then shut down, yet upon restarting the computer the sound is back. I also have the sims 2 installed. It appears to be working fine has anyone experienced this? Is there any hope for me and my zoo? :monkey:
