The problem: My sound goes on and off throughout the day while I play games.

Clues: iTunes will pause and not play.
I can play a game that REQUIRES a working sound card.
The problem is not with my speakers, I believe it to be internal.
Sound will randomly resume at times.
It is after long periods that sound resumes, it does not go on and off rapidly.

Please help me fix this problem. If you think I need to replace my sound card, any additional info on where to buy one is appreciated. I don't need good quality sound, I just want sound that works.

Edit** Windows XP, Gateway Intel Celeron 2.4 ghz, 760 ram. Realtek AC97

You haven't said what pc you have or what version of windows you have. We can only work with the information you give us, otherwise its a guessing game.

    Still in need of assistance.

The best thing to do would be to get the most up to date driver from Gateway and see if that helps.
