SpyDawn/System Alert Popup

Hi,

I have a "security" icon on beside my task bar that tells me I have active SpyWare programs. Clicking the bubble brings me to a website for downloading SpyDawn.

"SpyDawn" is a task/device/whatever that Ad-Aware SE has been removing for the past two days when I run it (trying to get rid of this icon), so I didn't want to download it.

I have run AVG 7.5 and Ad-Aware SE to get rid of this icon, but neither works. In Add/Remove programs, removing "System Alert Popup" restarts my computer. I haven't noticed any problems with the operating speed, pop-ups, etc. except for this icon. Please help me remove it, as it is a nuisance.

Hi, welcome to TechSpot.

Very important: Before deciding whether to clean or reformat your system, read this thread and decide what you want to do.

If, after reading the above thread, you decide to clean your system, please do the following.

Check out the Spydawn removal instructions. Follow all the instructions carefully.

Now read the Viruses/spyware/malware, preliminary removal instructions. Follow all the instructions to the letter, then post fresh HJT, Combofix, and AVG Antispyware logs as attachments into this thread. Also post here the results of the AVG Antirootkit scan.

The SmitFraudFix log should be located at C:\rapport.txt. Please post that file as an attachment here as well.

Regards :)

This thread is for the use of thestack only. Please don`t post your own virus/spyware problems in this thread. Instead, open a new thread in the Security and the Web forum.
