standby problems after windows reinstall...

Hello. I'm desperate for some help.
I recently had to wipe my HD and reinstall windows XP pro. Before, my computer had hibernation and standby as options. Now, under my power options in the control panel, there is no mention of hibernate or standby options.
Also, when i go to shutdown, the standby box is "greyed out"

I've read a bunch of threads with people who have similar problems and have tried to download the appropriate drivers with no success.

Here is what i have downloaded so far from Lenovo: (I have an IBM thinkpad T30)

1) Battery MaxiMiser and Power Management features for Windows - ThinkPad General
2) ThinkPad Power Management driver for Windows Vista, XP, 2000, Me, 98SE - ThinkPad
3) Video driver (ATI Radeon, FireGL Series) for Windows 2000/XP
4) Intel chipset support for Windows 98/2000/XP - ThinkPad T30, X30

I downloaded and "ran" these drivers. I did not further activate them or delete old drivers.
Nothing has changed AT ALL on my computer.

PLEASE PLEASE HELP
i'm starting to lose my mind!!

As you said the problem is nearly always driver related.

It can be a pain finding what driver is the problem - as you are discovering.

Here`s what the Internet says -

1.Update all drivers.

2.Disable non essential hardware in the Device Manager(right click/properties/disable).

3.Go to Start/Run and type powercfg -h on click OK

4.Disable BIOS Power Management

5.Curse that nothing works.
