Static IP

I have a static IP for connecting to work via a VPN.

I am looking for a way to use a different IP for private use.

Generally, is there a way to use an alternative IP without altering my service provider. eg an online source to borrow IPs? I have never heard on one.

You will have to ask your ISP for another IP address.

The reasoning for separate IP addresses may give different results
If you need different PUBLIC IPs on the WAN side, then see Nodsu's reply.
If you want different LAN IPs (so as to apply different firewall rules),
you can use IP Masquerading on the NIC to make it appear as separate addresses
