Hey all,

I know you're super busy, I've followed all of the steps outlined in this forum - as well as some other ones that I did before I came here - I've been fixing malware for some time, but this one has me stumped - the computer stills seems to be running a bit slow. Granted it doesn't have a lot of memory, it still should be slightly faster than it is. If you could all please take a look at these logs.

This comp started out with some major problems - couldn't open anything in Control Panel, wouldn't let me open any programs, wouldn't even let me open regedit - I fixed all that but I'm still thinking there's some stuff left.

Thanks a bunch, you guys are the greatest :)

-RJ

Please, post some computer info:
- processor type, amount of RAM (hold Windows logo key, hit Pause/Break key)
- hard drive size/free space (open "My Computer", right click on hard drive letter, click "Properties")

Please download ComboFix from Here or Here to your Desktop.

**Note: In the event you already have Combofix, this is a new version that I need you to download. It is important that it is saved directly to your desktop**
  1. Please, never rename Combofix unless instructed.
  2. Close any open browsers.
  3. Close/disable all anti virus and anti malware programs so they do not interfere with the running of ComboFix.
    • Very Important! Temporarily disable your anti-virus, script blocking and any anti-malware real-time protection before performing a scan. They can interfere with ComboFix or remove some of its embedded files which may cause "unpredictable results".
    • Click on this link to see a list of programs that should be disabled. The list is not all inclusive. If yours is not listed and you don't know how to disable it, please ask.
    NOTE1. If Combofix asks you to install Recovery Console, please allow it.
    NOTE 2. If Combofix asks you to update the program, always do so.
    • Close any open browsers.
    • WARNING: Combofix will disconnect your machine from the Internet as soon as it starts
    • Please do not attempt to re-connect your machine back to the Internet until Combofix has completely finished.
    • If there is no internet connection after running Combofix, then restart your computer to restore back your connection.
  4. Double click on combofix.exe & follow the prompts.
  5. When finished, it will produce a report for you.
  6. Please post the "C:\ComboFix.txt" along with a new HijackThis log for further review.
**Note: Do not mouseclick combofix's window while it's running. That may cause it to stall**

Make sure, you re-enable your security programs, when you're done with Combofix.

DO NOT make any other changes to your computer (like installing programs, using other cleaning tools, etc.), until it's officially declared clean!!!

ComboFix Error

Hey there!

Thanks for the reply

I downloaded Combofix from the locations you gave me (tried both cause the first didn't work)

I saved it directly to my desktop, and ran the program. I'm under the only account on the computer and it's an administrator account.

It gave me this following error after the green bars went to the end

"Windows cannot find '32788R22FWJFW\hidec.exe'. Make sure you typed the name correctly, and then try again. To search for a file, click the Start button, and then click Search.

Upon hitting okay it just keeps popping up, over and over and over - have to shut down combofix via the task manager.

Please help

-R.J.

Delete your Combofix file.
Download fresh one and rename combofix.exe to broni.com BEFORE saving it to your desktop.
Do NOT run it yet.

Please download and run the below tool named Rkill (courtesy of BleepingComputer.com) which may help allow other programs to run.

There are 4 different versions. If one of them won't run then download and try to run the other one.

Vista and Win7 users need to right click Rkill and choose Run as Administrator

You only need to get one of these to run, not all of them. You may get warnings from your antivirus about this tool, ignore them or shutdown your antivirus.

* Rkill.com
* Rkill.scr
* Rkill.pif
* Rkill.exe

* Double-click on the Rkill desktop icon to run the tool.
* If using Vista or Windows 7 right-click on it and choose Run As Administrator.
* A black DOS box will briefly flash and then disappear. This is normal and indicates the tool ran successfully.
* If not, delete the file, then download and use the one provided in Link 2.
* If it does not work, repeat the process and attempt to use one of the remaining links until the tool runs.
* Do not reboot until instructed.
* If the tool does not run from any of the links provided, please let me know.

Once you've gotten one of them to run then try to immediately run the following.

Now download and run exeHelper.

* Please download exeHelper from Raktor to your desktop.
* Double-click on exeHelper.com to run the fix.
* A black window should pop up, press any key to close once the fix is completed.
* A log file named log.txt will be created in the directory where you ran exeHelper.com
* Attach the log.txt file to your next message.[/LIST]

Note: If the window shows a message that says "Error deleting file", please re-run the program before posting a log - and post the two logs together (they will both be in the one file).

Attempt to run broni.com now.

I knew it

I knew there was still something going on with this comp - I've seen enough of this to know.

Okay first off the rkill that worked was the .src

Followed your next step - see log attached

Attempted to run "broni.com" and received this error after the "combofix" progress bar popped up

This file does not have a program associated with it for performing this action. Create an association in the Folder Options control panel.

It looks like exehelper didn't work for some reason.
Try to run rKill and exehelper one more time, them Combofix.
If still nothing, restart in Safe Mode and repeat all steps.

alright

Okay

Had to reboot into safe mode - and was able to run everything - I've attached the logs to this reply

Let me know how we're looking - also posted a fresh hijackthis log

Looks pretty good :)
Run following script in normal mode and make sure to allow recovery console installation.

1. Please open Notepad
  • Click Start , then Run
  • Type notepad .exe in the Run Box.

2. Now copy/paste the entire content of the codebox below into the Notepad window:

Code:
File::

Folder::

Driver::

Registry::
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\software\microsoft\security center]
"AntiVirusOverride"=dword:00000000
"FirewallOverride"=dword:00000000
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\software\microsoft\security center\Monitoring]
"DisableMonitoring"=dword:00000000

RegLockDel::

SecCenter::
{990F9400-4CEE-43EA-A83A-D013ADD8EA6E}

3. Save the above as CFScript.txt

4. Then drag the CFScript.txt into ComboFix.exe as depicted in the animation below. This will start ComboFix again.

CFScript.gif

5. After reboot, (in case it asks to reboot), please post the following reports/logs into your next reply:
  • Combofix.txt
  • A new HijackThis log.

Tried running this in normal mode - and I'm still unable to.

I'm still getting the can't locate hidex.exe file (Win Xp Home User)

Should I run this in Safe Mode?

-R.J.

Broni

Thank you so much for your help.

Unfortunately, I was out of touch for the last couple of days, and I couldn't avoid it.

I ran the combofix in SafeMode with the script you gave me.

I've reposted a fresh hijackthis log and a combofix log.

How is it all looking? I need to get this computer back to them today - is it pretty much clean or is it still a real big mess? So I know whether to ask for more time.

Thank you!

-R.J.

Things look pretty good :)
However, YOU tell me how it's doing.
If you can keep the computer for one more day, we should be done, unless you're still having some major issues.

Uninstall Combofix:
Go Start > Run [Vista users, go Start>"Start search"]
Type in:
Combofix /Uninstall
Note the space between the "Combofix" and the "/Uninstall"
Click OK (Vista users - press Enter).
Restart computer.

======================================================================

1. Download Temp File Cleaner (TFC)
Double click on TFC.exe to run the program.
Click on Start button to begin cleaning process.
TFC will close all running programs, and it may ask you to restart computer.

2. Go to Kaspersky website and perform an online antivirus scan.

1. Disable your active antivirus program.
2. Read through the requirements and privacy statement and click on Accept button.
3. It will start downloading and installing the scanner and virus definitions. You will be prompted to install an application from Kaspersky. Click Run.
4. When the downloads have finished, click on Settings.
5. Make sure these boxes are checked (ticked). If they are not, please tick them and click on the Save button:

  • Spyware, Adware, Dialers, and other potentially dangerous programs
    [*] Archives
    [*] Mail databases
6. Click on My Computer under Scan.
7. Once the scan is complete, it will display the results. Click on View Scan Report.
8. You will see a list of infected items there. Click on Save Report As....
9. Save this report to a convenient place. Change the Files of type to Text file (.txt) before clicking on the Save button. Then post it here.

Post fresh HijackThis log as well.
