  1. Competitive fighting games like Mortal Kombat and Street Fighter aren't typically known for their storylines. They do have them, mind you, but they are not really something that fans and developers have traditionally invested much time into.

With the next major installment in the Street Fighter franchise looming, Capcom has revealed that Street Fighter V will eventually get an expanded storyline mode in addition to the character stories that'll ship with the game.

In an interview with GameSpot, Street Fighter V Executive Producer Yoshinori Ono said the character stories are best described as a prologue to get people up to speed with what's happing in the game. They'll be similar to what's seen in other Street Fighter games, consisting of screenshots, conversations and banter between characters.

The storyline mode, Ono explained, will feature more than an hour of cinematic content that'll result in several hours of additional game content. Chronologically, Street Fighter V takes place between Street Fighter III and Street Fighter IV. One of their goals with Street Fighter V, Ono said, is to wrap everything together - all six titles of Street Fighter - cohesively.

Best yet, the story mode expansion will be free when it arrives in June.

Street Fighter V is set to launch on PlayStation 4 and the PC on February 16, 2016.
