    Sun Microsystems have released the "Tiger" update to Java as the "Java 2 Standard Edition 5.0". A list of features is available here. Enhancements include features to simplify the Java language so that programmers can write applications faster. This new Java will help Sun to compete with the advancing force of Microsoft .Net. More here.
