  1. Businesses that were looking forward to Microsoft’s Surface Hub will have to be patient, since Microsoft announced that it will delay production past the original September 1 launch date.

Microsoft says that based on high early interest in the collaboration tool, they are preparing for production at a broader scale. They will release an updated shipment schedule in early August, and will continue to take pre-orders.

The Surface Hub, with its huge touch-optimized display and daunting price tag, was announced in January and designed as an all-in-one collaboration tool. Microsoft is working with different partners, such as distributors, AV specialists, resellers and more, to make the process of integrating Surface Hub into daily operations as easy as possible.

Microsoft says they are expanding the Surface family and plan to go from having “a few hundred partners selling and servicing Surface to a few thousand globally in the coming months.” This expansion is tied in with their expected success of Windows 10.

The Surface Hub, looking past the bells and whistles, is the newest version of the conference room projector or video conference system that we all know and usually don’t love. Will the Surface Hub be a boon to businesses, or will it gather dust in the conference room? Microsoft and partners seem confident they have the solution, based on their efforts to ramp up production, but we won't know for sure until Surface Hub is finally out there.
