Surfing the internet anon

Does anyone know how to hide your IP address and surf the internet anon? I've tried ghostsurf but it didnt seem to work...have read a bit about the use of proxy servers...but not sure what exactly it is and how it works.

Hiding your IP adress is not a security measure. It will only give you the false feeling of security.
Of course the police will have some trouble tracking your goat porn habit..

If you want to browse the web anonymously then check if your ISP offers a web proxy service. Put the proxy address in your browser configuration and you are set.

lol...not for porn. I'm just experimenting as am curious and the extra anonynimity would be nice.

I have installed a program called ProxyWay. Not sure if it does its job yet. Would putting a proxy address slow performance down in anyway?

You don't need any extra programs to use a web proxy and I would advise against using any of these.

Connections through a web proxy will be slower latency wise (less responsive). If it's a caching proxy then you may get faster loading times for popular and more remote sites.
