This is kind of an odd question so I couldn't really find a good category for it. Anyway, when my system boots (to the desktop), the windows\system32 folder opens automatically. Is there any way to keep this from happening???

It`s not an odd question. It`s a fairly common one.

It has two possible causes -

1.Spyware. In which case go HERE follow the instructions, then post an HJT log in the Security and the Web forum.

2."Null, incomplete, or damaged entry exists in the registry." HERE

No.1 is the most likely. In fact No.1 is the main cause of No.2.

Not Fixed

Okay I looked into the registry and removed all the ("") from the strings listed in the article at Microsoft. After this I scanned the registry with registry mechanic. It found some stuff but it wasnt related to the issue. I fixed all the problems it found automatically I restarted my computer and BAM, the system32 window pops up. I also get a zHotKey notice with an error report. The good news is that the window ONLY pops up when it first boots to the desktop. I want to blame this on spyware but SpyBot didnt do away with the problem. I will try one of the online apps.

Please post an HJT log after following the instructions in that thread.

You have spyware.
