system only starts in vga mode

  1. hope you guys can help me
    when the pc starts i get the xp logo up and just before the desktop loads
    it all goes black apart from my mouse curser, but windows is loading ok.
    I have to start in vga mode to get my screen to show as soon as i try to increase the resolution or colour Quality,the screen goes black.
    i have uninstalled and reinstalled the ati drivers,and reset the bios to default.
    the 9700 was moderately overclocked to 320/290 the default was 276/270 do you rekon ive fried the card or is it possible the monitor is at fault. thanks in advance.

    It would appear that your videocard has gone bad.

    Please would you fill in your system specs as per this THREAD
