I am on a Toshiba Satellite laptop. I started getting this error and am unable to get this thing to boot. I tried using the system disk that came with the machine but it didn't work. It went through the whole recovery process and when it tried to reboot, same error.

I do not have a windows XP specific CD. I didn't get one with this machine. Just the system recovery disk, so the whole put-cd-in-and-hit-r-for-repair doesn't work either.

    Any suggestions welcome.

The two most common causes of the problem you seem to be having a faulty hard drive or faulty RAM.

What you should do is Google and get memtest and use it to test your RAM for at least seven passes. If you receive any errors at all then your RAM is faulty.

The next thing you should do is have a look in the sticky threads for manufacturers hard drive utilities and then check your hard drive out with one.
