System32\hal.dll Problems

I have had problems since deleting files to create space on hard drive of my Dell Inspiron 9400 laptop. I now cannot start windows and get message saying the <"windows root>\system32\hal.dll" file is missing or corrupt.

I need to save some files before I re-instal windows. have tried using recovery console but do not have the admin password. I have removed the drive and used an external enclosure but am getting a message that "access is denied" when I attempt to enter my documents.

I have tried a Paragon Rescue 9.0 disc but am getting an "Invalid Boot.ini" message.

Any suggestions to retrieve my files before I re-instal?

When you got the message 'access is denied' it was due to security/user access restrictions of NTFS. You can repeat the same process, but before trying to open my document's folder, right click on it, go to security tab, then to Advanced.

You need to take ownership of that object in order to access. Please let me know if you need further help. Regards
