T-Mobile counters Verizon, bolsters One unlimited plan with additional perks

Verizon over the weekend announced that from Monday, it would once again offer an unlimited data plan some five years after originally doing away with them. Unsurprisingly, T-Mobile has something to say about it.

As the nation’s third largest wireless provider and the industry’s top disrupter, T-Mobile on Monday mocked Verizon for its rollout of an unlimited data plan. Verizon’s stance not all that long ago was that people weren’t interested in unlimited data plans and that it felt most would be suited with 5GB of data per month but I digress.

In retaliation, T-Mobile as of February 17 (this Friday) is including HD video streaming and 10GB of mobile tethering as part of its T-Mobile One unlimited plan. As it stands today, video with the base T-Mobile One option streams at 480 (DVD) quality and hotspots are limited to 3G speeds although you can pay more for upgrades.

T-Mobile says the new features will be available at no extra charge to existing customers but they will need to activate them in the T-Mobile app or online at T-Mobile’s website.

Also, starting Friday, T-Mobile will be offering new and existing customers the option to open two lines of T-Mobile One service with monthly taxes and fees all included for $100 per month. T-Mobile last month had announced that it was going with singular pricing in which all hidden fees and taxes are rolled into the advertised price of its plans.

Now, if we could just get AMD and Intel to compete like this again, we’d be in business.

No, you aren't digressing, you're staying completely on topic with relevant information. I've criticized you before for using "I digress" both too much and improperly.

Also, work on your editing

I know going after type-os is usually a low blow, but you're getting paid for this. This is your JOB

So this is what competition is like. I wonder if AT&T will respond with a newer, simpler unlimited plan?

Also, limits to hotspot data cant leave soon enough. I am paying for that data, I should be able to use it as I see fit. after 28GB, my data is deprioritized. Why cant I use more then 10 of it on a hotspot?

I had planned to pay off my iPhone at Verizon next week, then switch to T-Mobile. I don't see anything that would change my mind. I just hope that T-Mobile works well inside buildings in Boston, MA

Well that's just it. T-Mobile plans look great but my reception inside buildings compared to AT&T and Verizon is poor. Especially at home so it's terminal. I don't quite get it though as 5m away, it's close to full bars.

It's possible that the cell towers near you aren't using a frequency good for penetrating walls.

Although we all know T-Mobile isn't truly looking out for the customer...their uncarrier motive has been a great thing for mobile consumers. Two "unlimited" lines for $100 is a steal. I would swap to it, but I'd be paying about $5 more....I currently have 6GB + Napster premier + Employer discount + 20GB data stash for about $54-$55 after taxes/fees (my half would be about $59 because of Napster subscription through T-Mo). My GF would benefit from it mostly. It's been impossible for me to go over data with music freedom, BingeOn & the 20GB stash.

My thoughts would be to just stick with verizon due to the scary things I've heard about tmobile including in these comments. if you can't get a decent signal with verizon then u.s cellular is your next best bet I'd say
