Symptoms: CTL-ALT-DEL opens task manager but it is reduced so that only the "new task" button is visible. I can drag it open so that all tasks are visible, but the Active Window text (min/max/close) and next lower panel of text, enabling selection of tasks vs. processes, is not displayed. Very occasionally, CPU races to 100% and mouse control gets spasmodic.
AVG 8.5 is up-to-date & was operational. I received some trojan warnings (AVG indicated it had cleaned the file) while downloading music from usenet. When the above symptoms started I figured I picked up "something" despite AVG assurances, I have run Kaspersky web-based scan as well as followed the 8 steps to this point. None of the scans identified problems.
Any guidance will be appreciated.
