First time caller here. Running on windows 2000.
The other day I noticed that my computer became real slow and unresponsive at times, and when trying to close a window thru the task manager, the TM would not open. I ran various virus/adware type applications, did some research on the net, only to notice that any page releated to spy ware problems or removers or virus dectectors or removers would not open up. But your typical everyday web page would. I also noticed that my security setting were changed and I have to do the services.msn thing thru the run program when I look for updates. Thats another thing that changes. It should be set to automatic, but its always disabled after a reboot. I also got the "low on virtual memory" message come up and the "error 128 windows will restart" message. After wanting to just toss the thing thru the window, I called my dad.. He told me to boot up in safe mode and see if it would open there. And it did. I didnt see any .exe files that were out of the norm, and I checked them on the net just for kicks.
Ive run stng260, adware and CWShredder and removed stuff. I also tried the mini removal coolwebsearch-smartkiller but I get the message that the program isnt on my system. I remember a few years back there was alittle program that you could download and run, and it pretrty much got rid of every last bit of computer trash, and changed the setting back to what they should be. I had it bookmarked, but my comp. has since crashed since then. Could it be a virus of some sorts, or a screwy system file. Ran disk check, but everything came out ok.
Oh, after running CWShredder in safe mode, I am able to get the little green CPU box/meter to come up in the system tray, but when I mouse over it, the thing goes away.
