Harmonix Music Systems and Mad Catz Interactive are bringing the band back together. The duo announced that a new Rock Band game is scheduled to arrive on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One later this year.

Rock Band 4 will arrive alongside new game controllers and more than 2,000 updated tracks.

While we don’t yet have a solid release date, the companies did provide some information on a couple of bundles. The first, called Band-in-a-Box, will include the game, a wireless Fender Stratocaster guitar controller, a wireless drum kit controller and a microphone.

Those not planning to play with friends or family can opt for the less expensive Guitar Bundle that only comes with the game and a Stratocaster guitar controller.

There’s also good news for those that have already invested in the Rock Band ecosystem. All songs downloaded on previous versions of the game will be imported into Rock Band 4 so you won't have to repurchase everything. Furthermore, the game’s lead developer Daniel Sussman said they are working their asses off with Microsoft and Sony on a solution to allow old instruments to work on the new consoles and is confident they will come up with a solution.

Anyone that pre-orders the game at the Harmonix booth during this week’s PAX East festival will gain access to a special edition Stratocaster controller featuring artwork from Penny Arcade’s “Gabe.”

And to think, struggling against my clumsiness and lack of talent, I still persevere and plod onward, with an obsolete analog guitar.

    4 buttons and a flappy paddle > 6 strings and 22+ frets.

At least, that's the impression I get from the kids at the mall GameStop.

Well I hate to admit this, but the rock band/guitar hero games are what made me pick up a real guitar in the first place.

    fix that for you

I'll sum up why these games are fun(and why the people who play them aren't pretending to be guitarists). Many of the people who play this game to the point where they get to the hardest difficultly are playing it simply because it is hard. you get to listen to some of your favorite music while you play and you can also compete with your friends. Go to someones house who has it and post a high score and when ever there's a party everyone tries to beat it. When someone does particularly well, or posts a new high score everyone cheers (or rages if you're the one who's high score got beat).

The game just has the right formula to be fun, challenging and competitive. Or, you know, it could have been all the drugs I did in college.

That said, I'm going to go hide in a cave for a little while until the shitstorm(or shamestorm) passes over.

Well, here's the thing. When I started playing guitar, we barely had FM radio, and didn't have color TV.

So, "Rock Band", simply wasn't an option.

It's hard to imagine that there was a time when free internet porn didn't exist. What a horrible, dark time you must have come from.

I know why they are fun. I've been to Guitar Hero parties & played the games. That's no reason not to bash people for playing fake guitars when they could be in real bands.

I'm not bashing on people playing it, I use to play the hell out of it and had a blast doing it. I know exactly how dumb it is but that's part of what makes it great.
