I am currently receiving this error after a full install of windows xp home. Previously i was receving an error on startup saying: The windows system file hal.dll is corrupted. The computer will boot as is but somehow requires the windows cd to do so. I think it could be registry related. Thanks for any help or suggestions.

I have attached a hijack this logfile.

hey wyrmwraith .. Try running the repair console on the windows cd. Do this by booting your pc from the cd rom and then pressing "R" at the windows setup screen. run CHKDSK on the console and see if it works.

your hjt log is fine. Nothing wrong except for a few missing files. Do the above windows repair (there is a thread with step-by-step if you want to read it) and hope it isn't something more sinister...
