The 2016 edition of Summer Games Done Quick, a speedrunning-for-charity event that raised an impressive $1,297,924.44 from 22,840 donors, wrapped up on Saturday. One of the many highlights from the week-long event was this “run” of Super Mario Bros. 3 which took just two seconds to complete.

Unlike most speedruns at the event, this one is of the tool-assisted variety. Long story short, a speedrunner by the name of ais523 figured out that if you overload the game with button presses (to the tune of 6,000 per second), things start to break down and memory is interpreted as code. At that point, you can essentially skip to the very end in mere seconds.

So basically, he didn't actually play the game at all, which means his run wasn't a run at all but merely an exploit. Lame.

The best part is his grandma asking, "Is he doing well?" after every overly complex move execution and crowd cheering.
