time for an upgrade

ok this is the stuff i plan on buying. I really want to keep this under 1k

Asus A8n-SLI (not deluxe)
Athlon 64 3000+ 939
Corsair XMS TwinX 1GB (2x512) 3200C2PT
1 EVGA Geforce 6600 gt (for now, gonna get another one for graduation from my father)
2 Western Digital Caviar 80 gb SATA HDD
OCZ Modstream 520 watt PSU
Lian Li PC-60 Case
NEC DVD+-RW Burner

this is like a graduation present for myself :)

That looks like a good rig, especially for under 1k. I don't know how much you're paying for the xms, but I'm guessing $170-190. You could save some money and get this ram instead. Ram It's cas 2-3-3-6, which is really fast(is the xms 2-2-2-5 or 2-3-3-6?), and it's only $114. That's a $70 savings.

What I'd do:
---
Asus A8n-SLI (not deluxe) --> MSI Neo4
Athlon 64 3000+ 939 --> same
Corsair XMS TwinX 1GB (2x512) 3200C2PT --> same or Geil
1 EVGA Geforce 6600 gt (for now, gonna get another one for graduation from my father) --> same
2 Western Digital Caviar 80 gb SATA HDD --> 1 x Maxtor 16mb 200gb
OCZ Modstream 520 watt PSU --> same or higher wattage
Lian Li PC-60 Case --> def. not this, save the money for upgrading other parts
NEC DVD+-RW Burner --> LG 16X DVD burner
