Hey all

Through a somewhat unlikely sequence of events, i wound up running the main hub for DC++ at my uni campus off my poor laptop. Thankfully the maximum number of users had been about 60, and on average its about 30-50, so there isn't many, and my laptop is powerful enough to run it without that many issues.

However, i have noticed my computer being a bit slower, and was wondering if anyone had tips to improve performance a bit and make my laptop run a bit smoother.

This is the DC++ website: http://dcplusplus.sourceforge.net/
This is website of the hub software I'm using to run it: http://www.ptokax.org/

The programs just sit minimized in the system tray place (next to the time) and don't bother me, so it's more tweaks or optimizations for windows (I'm running XP media centre) that I'm interested in.

I'm an intermediate computer user, but any server stuff i really have no idea about, so any tips, websites etc would be much appreciated!

Cheers!

get control of the Startup programs and the AUTOMATIC services;

running ONLY that which you need will save CPU and virtual memory.

incase it's not mentioned elsewhere, get a copy of PageDefrag.
make your swap file ONE fixed size (ie not managed by windows), reboot
and then run PageDefrag to cleanup the page file and your registry.

btw; PLEASE run chkdsk /F FIRST!
