Toshiba laptop rebooting repeatedly

Hi,

My Toshiba laptop has been working perfectly, but in the last few days it has started rebooting by itself over and over again. It gets as far as showing the desktop for about 1 minute and then it just reboots. Eventually it will work, but only for a certain length of time and then it goes back to rebooting.

Any ideas?

Thanx Linz

It's probably a virus. Have u got restore cds to restore your computer from in emergencies?

Hi! Thanks for your reply. Unfortunately we do not have any of the CDs the laptop came with, as we forgot to bring them with us to Dubai. Do you know if there is anywhere I can take it to have this done?

Thanx

more than likely your registry is corrupt. You will need to boot off an XP CD and run CHKDSK. Laptop questions need to be posted in the laptop forum.

Try to boot in safe mode, run anti-virus application (if you have one installed) if not, back-up your files, reinstall windows including anti-virus with latest virus update. restore files and problem solved.

Before you reinstall, make sure the Hard Drive isn't faulty. Download & run the Diagnostic from whoever built the Hard Drive - Toshiba, Hitachi, IBM, Seagate etc. You may have to use PC Wizard or similar to find out what it is - or pop the cover off the Drive and eyeball it. http://www.cpuid.com/pcwizard.php

A faulty HDD will do exactly what you describe.
