Convertible notebooks like those in Lenovo’s Yoga line are more popular than I initially gave them credit for. These notebook-turn-tablet systems offer the best of both worlds in terms of productivity and entertainment but you’ll have to pay for the convenience.
That’s where Toshiba’s latest convertible, the Satellite Radius 11, comes in. It offers the same notebook / tablet functionality found in the Yoga line at a fraction of the price.
As the name suggests, the Radius 11 features an 11.6-inch touchscreen display operating at a resolution of 1,333 x 768 and your choice of Intel Celeron or Pentium-class processor. The machine can support up to 4GB of RAM and your choice of 32GB of flash storage or a 500GB hard drive.
Given my penchant for speedy storage, I’d no doubt go with the former option and supplement it with an external hard drive or cloud storage, but I digress.
The Radius 11 also includes a single USB 3.0 port, a single USB 2.0 port, an HD webcam, an SD card slot (another good way to add more storage) and an HDMI port. It ships with a copy of Windows 8.1 pre-installed and tips the scales at around 2.9 pounds.
Sure, it’s not the most impressive hardware by a long shot but at a starting price of just $329.99, there’s little room to complain.
The Toshiba Satellite Radius 11 goes on sale starting October 26 at major retailers and online through Toshiba’s website.
