Toshiba satellite laptop

I have got a Toshiba satellite laptop and when I turn it on it says reboot and select proper boot device or insert boot media in selected boot device and press a key

If "reboot and select proper boot device" offers two or more choices and one of them is the system boot drive, select that.

Otherwise, it sounds like system boot device (HDD?, SSD?) may be on fritz.

What you do about it largely depends on how important your data is and on your warranty status. If you have backups and your data is NOT sensitive, then you may want to be checking warranty to see if you can put the problem in Toshiba's hands. If otherwise, you may wish to resolve this on your own.

If data is very important to you and you do not have backup, you may wish to remove the HDD now. Some folks send drives to (expensive) data recovery services - others remove and keep old drive so it can be attached as a secondary drive to a desktop and then try to read from it there.

If data is not important and you have warranty, look into that solution.

If data is unimportant and there is no warranty, try to boot with power charger installed and check BIOS/setup to see if HDD is recognized by system.

If it is, see if you can then boot with power supply attached.

If BIOS shows DVD, flashdrive or other device you can boot from - you can do that and try to access the HDD. Recovery Disk (if you made one) or System and Utility disks which came from manufacturer may provide method to boot and repair.

If not, you may need to replace. Many folks handle this as DIY project. Videos on YouTube show how. Finding one for your model can be very helpful. Toshiba should have downloadable manuals if you have lost yours. NewEgg sells many devices - and is good at taking returns - but you are responsible for making sure that what you order meets size and other requirements of your system..

If you have any specific questions, please provide specifications and model numbers for your system.
