Hi,

Hoping someone might be able to provide some help, getting kinda desperate..

Just caught quite a tricky virus, had AVG but seemed no good and the virus then blocked it from updating and running a scan.

tried installing a couple other anti virus, the only one I have had sucessing getting to do a scan was "PC Tools Antivrus", I ran a full scan and it found some but did not remove all.

started the 8 steps, run CC cleaner.
installed Malwarebytes, but the virus shuts down the program a few seconds after starting.

I'm attaching the log file from the PC tools antivirus scan, I also thought it might be of use if I ran Hijack this, so attach that log as well, even though have not been able to run Malware bytes..
note: the "Report40228.445729166669.txt" needs changing to .html, changed the extension as the uploader did not listed that extension.

did not run super anti spy as any thing that removes the virus is bound to reinstate.

Any help or advice anyone has got would be lovely, if I had hair it would be ripped out by now.

Thanks

Peter

O23 - Service: Pml Driver HPZ12 - HP - C:\WINDOWS\system32\HPZipm12.exe

O23 - Service: PnkBstrA - Unknown owner - C:\WINDOWS\system32\PnkBstrA.exe

O23 - Service: Cyberlink RichVideo Service(CRVS) (RichVideo) - Unknown owner - C:\Program Files\CyberLink\Shared files\RichVideo.exe

I'm a XP user as well..

not sure what else might be of use.

Thanks

You can't run two antivirus programs at the same time.
Either AVG, or PC Tools will have to go.
We'll do it in a moment, but first....

Please download ComboFix from Here or Here to your Desktop.

**Note: In the event you already have Combofix, this is a new version that I need you to download. It is important that it is saved directly to your desktop**
  1. Please, never rename Combofix unless instructed.
  2. Close any open browsers.
  3. Close/disable all anti virus and anti malware programs so they do not interfere with the running of ComboFix.
    • Very Important! Temporarily disable your anti-virus, script blocking and any anti-malware real-time protection before performing a scan. They can interfere with ComboFix or remove some of its embedded files which may cause "unpredictable results".
    • Click on this link to see a list of programs that should be disabled. The list is not all inclusive. If yours is not listed and you don't know how to disable it, please ask.
    NOTE1. If Combofix asks you to install Recovery Console, please allow it.
    NOTE 2. If Combofix asks you to update the program, always do so.
    • Close any open browsers.
    • WARNING: Combofix will disconnect your machine from the Internet as soon as it starts
    • Please do not attempt to re-connect your machine back to the Internet until Combofix has completely finished.
    • If there is no internet connection after running Combofix, then restart your computer to restore back your connection.
  4. Double click on combofix.exe & follow the prompts.
  5. When finished, it will produce a report for you.
  6. Please post the "C:\ComboFix.txt" along with a new HijackThis log for further review.
**Note: Do not mouseclick combofix's window while it's running. That may cause it to stall**

Make sure, you re-enable your security programs, when you're done with Combofix.

DO NOT make any other changes to your computer (like installing programs, using other cleaning tools, etc.), until it's officially declared clean!!!

update

Hi, thanks for replying..

ran combo fix, log attached..

it seemed to find more, so after it finished I also Ran Malware btyes as it was able to run this time, did a quick scan, then a full scan. attach its log as well.

Ran Hijack this and attach the new log as well.

On a plus, I quickly did a test and connected to the net a tired to access mcafee.com, which was previously being blocked (even directly from the address bar rather than just search results). this was fine.

Not sure if 100% clean yet but starting to look a bit more positive.

so after it finished I also Ran Malware btyes as it was able to run this time, did a quick scan, then a full scan. attach its log as well.
No harm done here, but I prefer, you follow this:
DO NOT make any other changes to your computer (like installing programs, using other cleaning tools, etc.), until it's officially declared clean!!!

You're running outdated HJT version. Please, delete HJT and...
Download HijackThis:
http://www.trendsecure.com/portal/en-US/tools/security_tools/hijackthis/download
by clicking on Installer under Version 2.0.2
[DO NOT download version 2.0.3 (beta)]
Install it and do nothing else.

You're running two AV programs, AVG and PCTools AV. One of them has to go. Your choice.
If you decide to uninstall AVG, make sure, you use AVG Remover: http://www.avg.com/us-en/download-tools. PC Tool should uninstall through Add\Remove just fine.

Perform all the above BEFORE running script listed below.

========================================================================

1. Please open Notepad
  • Click Start , then Run
  • Type notepad .exe in the Run Box.

2. Now copy/paste the entire content of the codebox below into the Notepad window:

Code:
File::
c:\windows\system32\AAB003E615.dll
c:\windows\system32\VistaUltm.dll
c:\docume~1\PETERC~1\LOCALS~1\Temp\wxkkdvf.bak
c:\windows\Tasks\ParetoLogic Anti-Virus PLUS.job
c:\windows\Tasks\ParetoLogic Update Version3.job

Folder::
c:\program files\ParetoLogic
c:\program files\Common Files\ParetoLogic

Driver::

Registry::
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\software\microsoft\windows nt\currentversion\drivers32]
"midi9"=-

RegLockDel::

3. Save the above as CFScript.txt

4. Then drag the CFScript.txt into ComboFix.exe as depicted in the animation below. This will start ComboFix again.

CFScript.gif

5. After reboot, (in case it asks to reboot), please post the following reports/logs into your next reply:
  • Combofix.txt
  • A new HijackThis log.

Kaperspy

posting this again as I posted a few urls in the last and it needs moderator approval first..

The Kasperspy link did not work, it took me to addthis bookmark page, but did not redirect, I did a search and pulled up the online scan page which says its being improved and its not available, shall I download a 30 days trail? (i'd remove AVG first).

Thanks

No.

Please download JavaRa to your desktop and unzip it to its own folder
  • Run JavaRa.exe (Vista users! Right click on JavaRa.exe, click Run As Administrator), pick the language of your choice and click Select. Then click Remove Older Versions.
  • Accept any prompts.
  • Open JavaRa.exe again and select Search For Updates.
  • Select Update Using Sun Java's Website then click Search and click on the Open Webpage button. Download and install the latest Java Runtime Environment (JRE) version for your computer.

Note 1: UNCHECK any pre-checked toolbar and/or software offered with the Java update. The pre-checked toolbars/software are not part of the Java update.

Note 2: The Java Quick Starter (JQS.exe) adds a service to improve the initial startup time of Java applets and applications. If you don't want to run another extra service, go to Start > Control Panel > Java > Advanced > Miscellaneous and uncheck the box for Java Quick Starter. Click OK and restart your computer.

9. Please, let me know, how is your computer doing.

Sweet

The MySql was not fake as after reboot could not conntect to localhost, but as said not a worry as can reinstall..

Thanks so much Broni, your the dude.

Will also run windows updates, defrag and have a few password to change..

Gonna shut off now and go bed (late for me here in england), will keep you informed if have any issues but the computer was already noticeably better, but will still keep vigilant...

is there anyway I can get a hint of how long the machine was infected for? I noticed some .mp3 files that were infected that I downloaded a while ago, but dont know if they were pre infected or done by the a downloaded virus, I certainly had not noticed any virus behavior (redirecting & stopping AVG that day and know they were running fine previous)...

Thanks again..

Peter

is there anyway I can get a hint of how long the machine was infected for?
Nah....

Let me know, how the computer is doing after completing all steps...
