Trojan.small infection

I came over to see what was wrong on my sister's computer. Whenever she would open up Firefox, IE would also open up and the computer would grind to a halt. Sometimes ctr+alt+del would help reboot but usually it would not and you had to hard reset. This would only happen on her profile.

I did all the preliminary removal steps and the problem is gone. But AVG Anti-Spyware found a trojan.small and I just wanted to know what to do next. AVG virus scanner had also found a trojan but even after deleting file, or healing it, it would always come back.

requested files are attached. combofix and panda found nothing.

you should also try to run scan in a safe mode. i bet it will pick up more files then and it will be able to delete more because most of malicious processes are inactive in a safe mode. and as they are very much active in a normal mode, security tools can't erase some them. just my 2cents :) i'm sure some "official answerer" will give you better advices. however here's safe mode instructions if you want to give it a try.

Hello and welcome to Techspot.

You haven`t posted a Combofix log, please do so in your next reply.

Delete all files in AVG Antispyware quarantine.

Your system is infected with a variety of malware.

Please do the following.

You might want to copy and paste these instructions into a notepad file. Then you can have the file open in safe mode, so you can follow the instructions easier.

Boot into safe mode, under your normal user name(NOT THE ADMINISTRATOR ACCOUNT). See how HERE.

In Windows Explorer, turn on "Show all files and folders, including hidden and system". See how HERE.

Go to add remove programmes in your control panel and uninstall anything to do with(if there).

BUTTER~1

Close control panel.

Open your task manager, by holding down the ctrl and alt keys and pressing the delete key.

Click on the processes tab and end process for(if there).

BO1HEL~1.EXE
HKNTFS~1.EXE

Close task manager.

Run HJT with no other programmes open(except notepad). Click the scan button. Have HJT fix the following, by placing a tick in the little box next to(if there).

O2 - BHO: (no name) - {1ED1FEB3-1478-518F-7D71-3CB60A1AA7CC} - C:\WINDOWS\system32\oars.dll (file missing)

O2 - BHO: (no name) - {6ACE5158-E4C7-8311-B54E-C919630CD09A} - C:\WINDOWS\system32\yxbdelx.dll (file missing)

O2 - BHO: (no name) - {B4AFA935-1CAB-2A2E-895B-38E602830D91} - C:\WINDOWS\system32\kdvl.dll

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [BO1HelperStartUp] C:\PROGRA~1\BUTTER~1\BO1HEL~1.EXE /partner BO1

O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [Fpf] C:\WINDOWS\system32\HKNTFS~1.EXE

O20 - AppInit_DLLs:

Click on the fix checked button.

Close HJT.

Locate and delete the following bold files and/or folders(if there).

C:\WINDOWS\system32\HKNTFS~1.EXE
C:\PROGRA~1\BUTTER~1
C:\WINDOWS\system32\kdvl.dll

Reboot into normal mode and rehide your protected OS files.

Post a fresh HJT log as well as a Combofix log.

Also, please let me know the results of the Panda Antirootkit scan.

Followed all of your instructions. Here's the fresh hjt and combofix log. The Panda Antirootkit scan found no root kits.

Your HJT log is clean.

Open notepad and copy/paste the text in the quote box below into it:
NOTE* make sure to only highlight and copy what is inside the quote box nothing out side of it.
Also ..

Pay particular attention to this :-

Make sure the word File:: is on the first line of the text file you save (no blank line above it, & no space in front of it)
Code:

File::
C:\WINDOWS\system32\?hkntfs.exe

Save this as CFScript.txt

Then drag the CFScript.txt into ComboFix.exe as you see in the screenshot below.

CFScript.gif

This will start ComboFix again. After reboot, (in case it asks to reboot), post the contents of Combofix.txt in your next reply.

Regards Howard :)
