The thing is people might look to this thread for info if they happen to have the same problem & generally people do not want to swim through dozens of off-topic posts. That is why you are invited to start an off topic thread in the meeting spot which serves its name, meeting spot.;)

Yes mate I do agree but I think if people bother to look at the ealier posts of this thread then it should be quite obvious what the answer to the original problem is. I.E delet all cookies and temporary internet files including off line content. Regards Howard:grinthumb

Mods, please lock this thread. It's stale, bloated, and convoluted. We'd be best starting a new thread on this issue if it still exists.

OK,Didou, I get the message, I don't want the reputation of taking up so much space, four pages to date, can I ask you to delete the first three, I'm sure it's within your jurisdiction to do so, so please go ahead.
Howard, thanks for supporting me in this, but even I could see that we had transgressed regs, I usually warn against rambling on with subject matter not connected with the main purpose of the site, I should have used PM for that pupose, don't want to blot my copybook, I value being a member, this site is too unique to lose.
Blimey, Goalie, you're only a TS Enthusiast like me, but even you are telling me to shut up,..... charming!
:( , but go ahead Moderators, lock this thread, if that's what you think is needed, or delete most of it. Much as I love TS, I do think that the regs are a little stifling though.

Maurice:confused:

I did what Jean suggested about doing a custom test on AVG to get rid of the dropper but after I click on documents and settings, it tells me I need a disk or directory. What does that mean?

Hello, Mrs Chad, nice to greet you, on your first day on site, welcome to TS!
I'm probably not the best person to advise you, as I am almost as much in the dark as you are about AVG, my best guess is that you have the free version, like me, which doesn't have much, if any, online support, no doubt the guys will come on their white chargers, to rescue a lady in distress shortly!.
I am in my 70's, & have only acquainted myself with computers in the last two years, so I ask more questions than I solve problems, a lot of members have a lot of experience, being in the IT industry themselves.
I probably shouldn't be so ungallant, but the average age of new members seems to be rising lately, but to redeem myself, [I hope!] I think you are the youngest of the upper age new members, phew!!
I expect, like me, you found Jean very nice, with a good sense of humour, I found that out, after I gave her some cheek too!

Come back on line in a couple of hours, & I bet there'll be some good advice/info waiting for you, they've been brilliant to me over the past year!

Maurice

P.S;- I'm guessing that "NH" is New Hampshire, well, I was born in "old" Hampshire, [Portsmouth, England]:D :grinthumb

Hi, Maurice, what a nice message. I have had computers for about 4 years. There are some things I am very knowledgeable about but on the other hand, there are lots of things I am just as unknowledgeable about and I get soooooo frustrated I could cry. I don't know if there is any solution to this AVG/Dropper thing. But it is nice to know there are others who are in the same boat as I am.
I was very impressed with what I read, though. Nice helpful bunch of people.

By the way, Maurice, my family came from England and supposedly our geneology says we are related to the Queen. Way way way back. But then it says we are related to some very strange people as well. My maiden name was Hammond, a rather quaint English name, don't you think?

Just right click on Internet explorer and select properties then click on delete cookies and confirm then click on delete files tick the check box which say delete offline content and confirm this should get rid of the Funweb thing once and for all. Also delete it out of your virus vault. Regards Howard:grinthumb

There, Mrs Chad, [MUST I call you Mrs Chad, or should it be Your Highness, ha-ha, can I ask your first name?] I told you about the gallant members coming forward, well, Howard's the first, no doubt there will be others:angel: with differing points of view.
As to Hammond being a "quaint" English name, I know several "Hammond's",....they'd be very amused, you ought to go on one of the many websites, & look up your English ancestry.
May I guess that, bearing in mind your health situation as it is, that you spend quite a bit of time at your computer?, [with your dog by your side, no doubt!] Don't forget, you can send me a private message where we can chat, without clogging up the thread we are on, I'd like that, you seem to be one "feisty" lady, just click on my profile, then click on "send Maurice a private message", I'm a widower with very few living relations, & we couldn't have children, so I have plenty of time on my hands.

Regards, Maurice:blush:

:D Mrs Chad, not a reply as such, had this Web address tucked away, & today, looking for something else, came across it, & wondered if you'd be interested.;--

www.census.pro.gov.uk/cl

Mind you, it might not go back far enough, it shows the ACTUAL pages of the 1901 Census for England & Wales, if you want to have a look, you can actually click on the address in this message, & go there, I know it works, because another address I sent to somebody on Techspot did.

Regards, Maurice.

Some people might think it's a harsh move but it's not intended that way. I'm only locking up this thread because it has gone way beyond discussing the matter in the title. People who are looking for a solution on that matter will create new threads saying "I found an existing but didn't feel like reading through the 6 pages so I did a new one".

Once the issue discussed in a specific thread has been answered, please only add posts to that very thread if you're bringing in more valuable information.;)

Desertrat kindly created a thread in the meeting spot to continue talking about other things, thank him & use that thread instead ( Following the Chancellor's orders ).:)

Thread locked.
