Trouble installing dvd writer

i have purchased a pioneer dvd writer and attached my old external cd drive power source to back of new dvd but when i go to install it doesnt recognise new hardware,it appears as a us mass storage device with code 10 error,is the power source incorrect,i am running windows xp prof,i actually exchanged unit for another one but same problem,any help appreciated

you need to make sure that the jumper on the DVD writer is set the same as the drive it replaced. ie; master, slave, or CS
