Trump administration to reform work visa programs used by many tech companies to bring...

Are you kidding? Trump is the magic man. He even has fairy godmother Bannon waving his magic wand to transform the nation into the promised land. WTF? You want them to educate people? Who needs education? It costs too much. /sarcasm
The voters can't reconcile taxes and investing in the nation's education makes a better society. Most hate the idea their money will be spent on someone else or the government will waste it - lots of mistrust with govt which is understandable.

GOOD!
A lot of these tech companies have been using the H1B, to keep wages low, by hiring overseas.
How many stories have we seen recently, where they outsource, or replace workers with H1B types
and force the soon to be fired workers to train their cheaper replacements? All the while, keeping
their stock price high, and or board members rich. THAT needs to stop, and stop NOW.
Yes, if there are not QUALIFIED candidates, that's one thing, but if there is a qualified person here in the
states to do the job, but you can outsource it for 1/4 of the price, that should NOT be allowed!

Diversity isn't a bad thing you know... You guys sound xenophobic. Now I'm hoping all the engineers and top level people can come to my country with their intellect and boost our economy and drive industry.

Thank you trump. If only you really knew what you are doing.

U.S based companies operate in a climate of unbridled capitalism, monetary efficiency is part of the corporate DNA. By increasing how much a company must pay a H1B worker it removes that financial incentive off the table and suddenly U.S. born worker's are back in the game. However a shortfall will most certainly occur since the rise of the Foreign worker program has driven potential homegrown talent away and into one's where they can be a higher earner. It will take year's to correct but if this administration stay's the course the laws of supply and demand will see a rebound in the number of graduates entering that industry. This small change and other's will make sure Corporation's stay on the up and up when looking for way's to maximise profit and not at the expense of homegrown talent.

The USA is one of the leaders in technology because we hire the best of the best, this is blow to innovation.

Agreed. Additionally, we should focus more resources to programs that help create "qualified local workers" for STEM careers.

american society is very harsh that way, isnt it?

Nope, not one bit! But, when you bring in people, JUST BECAUSE THEY WORK FOR LESS, than Americans will work for, just to prop up "the bottom line", that is WRONG. Putting someone else ahead of an American worker, to save a buck is unethical.
How many stories have you read, where workers are required to train their foreign workers, then fired?

I'm all for hiring more Americans, but sorry.... if there are more qualified people that are foreign, you will still hire less qualified Americans just for the sake of them being American? Not only that sounds like a type of segregation, but it also sounds stupid. Which business owner in the right mind would ever hire a less qualified individual for a job, simply because they are American????

At least overhaul the sh**y American education system if you are doing so. We lack qualified individuals exactly because of that. Countries with a better educational system not only start teaching much more relevant subjects in schools earlier, they also specialize their students in the chosen field much earlier. As a college student seeking a Computer Science Degree I can tell you, I waste so much of my time with subjects that have absolutely nothing with the field I'm focusing in.... did I not go through that useless crap in High School?

Yup, let's lower the intelectual/qualification bar, because 'MURICA!

It's a double edged sword. While you would want to give your own citizens first crack at the market, you'd also want the best person for that job. Damned if you do, damned if you don't.
Very true, the issue I think people have with it is when I a American worker who was educated in the US wants $80,000 a year the company can grab a employee from India that is at the same level of education and pay them $50-60,000 a year. I don't know how big of a problem it is, but I know from friends in the industry it happens.

There's another very big reason companies here hire foreigners. It's to actually protect American jobs. (Wait.. what?)

My company has a number of programmers from India - many on H1-B Visas. They come here for around 18 months and rotate home or somewhere else in the company. It's called a flexible staffing model. The reason for this is because when something like a 2008 financial crisis comes around a grand total of ZERO Americans get laid off, because you're able to just drop contractors. The Americans get stable jobs and job security, the Indians get to make great money as well and both pay tax to the USA.

There's also the issue of talent. We can't find enough Americans to do all the work we need. We NEED help from foreigners.

Not to mention - many of the H1-B Visa holders turn into green card holders and live here permanently. We also need this. America has way too many older people drawing from social security and way to few young people working. We need to increase the tax paying population in this country - especially after 8 years of hopeless economy left people sitting on the couch collecting benefits.

"America has way too many older people drawing from social security......"
You should chop that comment to pieces. It is the same comment in Australia from the younger generation, get this, OLDER PEOPLE PAID TAXES ALL THEIR LIVES!
They are drawing their own money from social security, they shed blood, sweat, and tears, & they fought in wars to keep you, and people like you living in a free country, eating a vast choice of good food, freedom to walk and talk in the street, watch TV and all the other things you take for granted ...... YOU owe THEM a living with a pension.

Money and greed by the large corporations is the bottom line. Many, many years ago, American, British, Canadian, Australian and other Western universities opened their doors to teach non-Western students.
Most of the students took their learning and skills back to their own countries to teach their own students, and it continued with assistance from Western countries with monetary aid.
The result is now before you, education, knowledge and skills from non-Western highly educated people is leaving Western -skilled people behind.
Another problem is that when making a 'phone call to most companies for support or advice, the person answering the query is usually from a non-Western country, and I have experienced on many occasions the person, either male or female is very difficult to understand.
Low-cost labour hire from overseas, young people in America, Britain, Canada, Australia, New Zealand etc; are unemployed, not due to lack of ability, due to GREED by large corporations, big profits, care for the shareholders, dis-loyalty to their own country and it's people, no respect for the millions of men and women who died to keep them free, and all the benefits that go with living in a free country.
Along with many grossly over-paid politicians, bankers, media moguls in each Western country, they are basically disgusting human beings, selfish to the core!

The real reason Trump is doing this is so he can hire someone to build a special telephone so he can just babble into it because his tiny tiny hands are sore from signing so many papers and grabbing *****.

I couldn't agree with you more even if I tried to.

I 100% agree - of course they deserve what they've paid into. Let me rephrase - 'America has way too many people drawing from SS compared to how many are paying in'.

The problem is the govt didn't put that money into a savings account and save it for all those hard workers who would need it later. The govt spent it right away and just planned on paying out the promised amounts with the money the younger generation would pay in later. So now that we have fewer young people paying in, they aren't able to satisfy the promised amounts to the older generation - who rightfully earned it.

This system of taking someone's money, promising it back to them later, then spending it and planning on borrowing more later to pay back your promise is called a Ponzi scheme. It's illegal for any normal person to do, but it's exactly how Social Security works.

I suggest we get immigrants help to pay for it because I believe we should pay it out to those who earned it. But we also need to stop promising so much - and if you're 25 years old now, you should start saving for yourself because the way the govt setup SS it's going to run out of money way before you retire.
